Sony Wants To Revive Flatliners

Source Code's Ben Ripley will write itThere's a loud electronic bell going off in Empire Towers right now, and that can only mean one thing - someone is trying to remake a '90s thriller! In this case, it's Joel Schumacher's Flatliners. Despite a hefty cast of young (at the time) stars including Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt, the film wasn't exactly memorable for either its quality plot or big box office success. The story, for those who have never ventured beyond the limits of existence and decent scriptwriting to seek out the movie, follows a group of medical students who decide to explore the realm of near death experiences. To do this, they have their hearts stopped for a period of time before being revived. But because this is a case of Man's Scientific Folly, they naturally begin to experience nightmare waking visions from their past, with old sins coming back to haunt them. Soon, they must delve deeper into their experiences to try to find a cure...This time around, Sony has hired Source Code writer Ben Ripley, no stranger to high concept science stories himself, to bash out a new take on the idea. As of right now, there's no word on who might step up to direct as it's still at an embryonic stage. Schumacher likely won't be involved with the remake, or at least isn't mentioned in connection with it just yet, though the original production company, Further Films, is attached.

Katy Perry Ties Michael Jackson's Historic Hot 100 Record

Katy Perry becomes the first woman, and second artist overall following Michael Jackson, in the 53-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to send five songs from an album to No. 1, as "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" becomes the fifth chart leader from her Capitol Records set "Teenage Dream."our editor recommendsConcert Review: Katy PerryAdele, Katy Perry Push Album Sales to First Increase Since 2004Katy Perry Joined Onstage by Rebecca Black on LA Show's Opening NightKaty Perry: 5 Most Surprising Covers (Video)How 'Smurfs' Tied 'Cowboys & Aliens' at the Box Office The historic Hot 100 coronation follows the album's prior No. 1s "California Gurls" (featuring Snoop Dogg), the lead single from Teenage Dream; the title cut; "Firework"; and, "E.T." (featuring Kanye West). The set bowed atop the Billboard 200 album chart dated Sept. 11, 2010, and has sold 1.7 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. While Perry is the first woman to achieve the honor, she is the second artist to manage the feat after Jackson. The late King of Pop sent five songs to No. 1 on the Hot 100 from Bad in 1987-88: "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" (with Siedah Garrett); the title track; "The Way You Make Me Feel"; "Man in the Mirror"; and, "Dirty Diana." Jackson notched his quintet of No. 1s from Bad over nine months and two weeks. Perry's five toppers from Dream spans one year, two months and one week, dating to the first week at No. 1 for "Gurls" on the Hot 100 dated June 19, 2010. (The newest Hot 100 is dated Aug. 27, 2011). While Jackson earned the achievement more quickly, Perry has spent more time atop the Hot 100 in each artist's respective commanding stretch: Jackson's five No. 1s from Bad totaled a combined seven weeks in charge. With the first week on top for "Friday," Perry is up to 18 total weeks at No. 1 with her No. 1s from "Dream." Following "Gurls," which reigned atop the Hot 100 for six weeks, the title song from Dream began a two-week command on the chart dated Sept. 18, 2010. "Firework" spent four weeks at No. 1 beginning Dec. 18, 2010, and "E.T." landed at the apex for five weeks starting April 9, 2011. Perry's streak of five Hot 100 No. 1 singles promoted to radio is the most by a lead artist since Mariah Carey scored a similar run in 1990-91. Whitney Houston holds the chart record with seven consecutive leaders in 1985-88. "Friday" takes over the Hot 100 summit by spending a second week atop Hot 100 Airplay, registering 148 million in all-format audience (up 1%), according to Nielsen BDS. The song rebounds 5-4 on Hot Digital Songs with 156,000 downloads sold (up 14%), according to SoundScan. Capitol last week released a remix of "Friday" featuring Missy Elliott. The remix accounted for 25% of the song's overall digital sales in the Aug. 8-14 sales tracking week. All versions of the song were discounted to 69 cents at the iTunes and Amazon mp3 stores in that span. "Friday" spent two weeks at No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs in early July following the premiere of its eight-minute-plus video which features cameos from the likes of musicians Rebecca Black, Kenny G, Debbie Gibson and Hanson and actors Corey Feldman, Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, the latter two of whom star in Fox's Glee. The clip has registered 80 million views on YouTube. Perry ascends to Hot 100 history by displacing LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, after the song spent six weeks at No. 1. The track dips to No. 2, slipping 1-2 on Hot Digital Songs (160,000, down 13%) and holding at No. 2 on Hot 100 Airplay (142 million, down 3%). At No. 3 on the Hot 100, Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger," featuring Christina Aguilera, bounds up five places with dual Greatest Gainer/Digital and Airplay awards. "Jagger" swaggers 2-1 on Hot Digital Songs (219,000, up 38%) and 32-18 on Hot 100 Airplay (47 million, 37%) following the premiere of its video Aug. 8. Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10 are Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" (3-4); Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters," featuring Bruno Mars (5-5); Lil Wayne's "How to Love" (6-6); Pitbull's "Give Me Everything," featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer (4-7); Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" (13-8) (the chart's sole title making its first top 10 appearance; it led Alternative Songs for five weeks beginning in June); Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" (7-9); and, OneRepublic's former No. 8-peaking "Good Life" (11-10). 'The Change-Up' and much more R-Ranked Comedies We Like That Everybody Else Hates

It does not happen frequently, but every every now and then a comedy can come along that you simply think may be the funniest darn factor since Monty Python met King Arthur ... and everybody else thinks your crazy. Since 'The Change-Up' has finally hit theaters and also the general consensus continues to be totalled together through the fine folks at Rotten Tomato plants, it's we have arrived within the proud minority of people that think it had been amusing. And that is okay, everyone's titled for their opinions and often that's precisely how it is going. But at the same time, this is not the very first time we have found ourselves raising an eyebrow at exactly what the public consider "unfunny." Therefore we made the decision to do your homework and look for exactly what the Tomatometer needed to say about a number of the most popular comedies. Typically, these were accurate, but here's to wishing that people find ourselves vindicated when 'The Change-Up' at some point finds itself joining the ranks of those other extremely under-appreciated, R-ranked comedy gems. 'MacGruber' Tomatometer score: 47% Exactly what the others say: "A movie that poses a philosophical question fundamental to the inquiry here, namely: 'Why performs this exist?'" - A.O. Scott, The Brand New You are able to Occasions What we should say: Yes, it's as stupid because they come and it is totally absurd as well, however when we had this in theaters, we almost lost our lunch from laughing so difficult. From MacGruber's romantic run-in in a graveyard to his psychotic dependence on license plate amounts, we still think this is actually the funniest SNL movie since 'Wayne's World' in '93. Exactly what do you think about 'MacGruber?'Awful.Amusing.Election 'Step Brothers' Tomatometer score: 54% Exactly what the others say: "A film of unwavering idiocy featuring boorish behavior, impractical character development and ridiculous plotting." - Bruce Demara, Toronto Star What we should say: The very first half-hour of the movie almost made us wet our pants from laughing so difficult. Next, it isn't precisely the most consistent comedy we have seen, but who're we kidding? All we actually require is three words to summarize why we believe 'Step Brothers' is amusing: Catalina Wine Mixer. Exactly what do you think about 'Step Siblings?'Awful.Amusing.Election 'Half Baked' Tomatometer score: 29% Exactly what the others say: "Half-Baked wants to become a classic moronic movie, but it is too stupid to accomplish this goal." - David Nusair, Reel Film Reviews What we should say: Yes, it's stupid, but when Dork Chappelle is involved by any means shape or form, then we are immediately laughing along. While it's really no 'Up in Smoke' so far as stoner comedies are worried, will still be available online for okay and it is great each time. Exactly what do you think about 'Half Baked?'Awful.Amusing.Election 'Dirty Work' Tomatometer score: 17% Exactly what the others say: "A film which makes even Don Rickles unfunny." - Widgett Walls, Needcoffee.com What we should say: A little about the offensive side, a great deal about the juvenile side, but it was a small comedy thought whenever we first discovered it in '99 and that we still don't really get all of the hate. Folks, Norm MacDonald is among the funniest people alive, Artie Lange rocks ! too, and despite the fact that this did not exactly do much to enhance their careers by any means, shape or form, we still think they provided themselves one hell of the comedy. Exactly what do you think about 'Dirty Work?'Awful.Amusing.Election 'Super Troopers' Tomatometer score: 35% The things they say: "The film is all about as humorous as watching your preferred pet get hidden alive." - Jason Clark, Matinee Magazine What we should say: Granted, it required us a few viewings to genuinely get how funny this movie is, however that we are about the level, we believe 'Super Troopers' is really a riot. Similar to their alcoholic follow-up, 'Beerfest,' (that also includes a criminally low Tomatometer score of 39%) the Damaged Lizard crew does not possess the most accessible spontaneity available, or even the most family-friendly, but we have viewed these two movies more occasions than we are able to count. No clue why Kevin Heffernan is not a family group title yet. Exactly what do you think about 'Super Military?'Awful.Amusing.Election 'Tommy Boy' Tomatometer score: 46% The things they say: "Inane and tasteless comedy of weight problems and mess." - Film4 What we should say: Okay, it isn't ranked R, but when there's any underrated comedy on Rotten Tomato plants that people could pull off calling a "classic," it's 'Tommy Boy.' Whenever he hear someone state that Chris Farley was just funny due to his weight, simply mind boggling how rapidly their tunes often change after watching this movie. So quotable, so funny, and we'll always uphold Farley. Exactly what do you think about 'Tommy Boy?'Awful. Amusing.Election 'Billy Madison' Tomatometer score: 46% The things they say: "As you character informs Billy within the finale: 'Everyone within this room is dumber for getting took in for you.AInch - Rita Kempley, Washington Publish What we should say: Also PG-13, but needed to throw it inside. It's insanely immature, it's overloaded with moments of Adam Sandler speaking gibberish, it might actually be easily the funniest movie Sandler's available alongside 'Happy Gilmore' (with a Tomatometer score of the measly 59%). Regardless of how old we obtain, we'll also have a soft place for 'Billy Madison,' and at the minimum, it is a bittersweet indication of how funny he was previously. Exactly what do you think about 'Billy Madison?'Awful.Amusing.Election What exactly are a handful of other comedies that only you believe are amusing? Photo thanks to Universal Pictures.

Marvel Wants Guardians Of The Galaxy Pic

The company is developing more heroes.... Given how many of Marvel's characters are already up on screen, and how many more are in development, you might imagine that there are very few left kicking their heels in the waiting room, eyeing the complimentary water bottles and out-of-date lifestyle magazines and wondering when their chance at the big screen might come. Well, the Marvel Universe is a big place, so we imagine the room to be about the size of 10 hangers. But now one group of heroes might finally be seeing their number flash on the LED board - as according to Twitch, the company is now pushing ahead with plans for a movie based on Guardians of the Galaxy. Chances are that unless you're a Marvel diehard, you may never have heard of the characters, and that's because the team is now looking to tap some of the lesser-known properties for franchise potential. Originally appearing in Marvel Super-Heroes in 1969, they're a team assembled from various different species and planets in the 31st century with the aim of fighting off the evil Badoon, a race attempting to conquer the solar system. They've fought several other foes since then and were even re-launched in 2008 for a more modern incarnation. Marvel's Kevin Feige has already talked up the possibility of a Guardians film, but now it would seem they will be flung into the howling maw of development...
