(Greek dialogue)Existence never computes the means by which it's made to in "Unfair World," a drama that mixes hyperrealism with absurdity in the style with debt to Aki Kaurismaki, yet lacks the Finnish helmer's warmth and humanistic feeling of character. Creating a rapid about-face from his previous "Plato's Academy," helmer Filippos Tsitos favors bold lensing in this tale from the hangdog police interrogator together with a cleaning lady whose diverse fundamental outlooks produce a true connection impossible. Striking pictures can't entirely atone for the overlong running time, though two wins at San Sebastian, for director and actor, guarantee a festival career. "I'd rather 't be unfair" might be the guiding principle for Sotiris (Antonis Kafetzopoulos), a desk-bound cop too ready to believe everyone is brought by good intentions. Thinking that the bar owner is innocent of white-colored slavery charges, he and partner Minas (Christos Stergioglou, "Dogtooth") offer money with a security officer with info, however, if they realize they're being blackmailed, Sotiris shoots the guard. Quite simply, while he states, his trigger finger didn't obey him. After dumping the body, they identify the bribe money, possessed by Minas' wife, is missing. Sotiris thinks Dora (Theodora Tzimou), the cleaning lady, might have think it is, but she declines all understanding. Thinking honesty may be the finest policy in this situation, he notifies her precisely what happened, yet Dora still declines obtaining the dough auds know in different ways. Sotiris is constantly disappointed in humanity, that's most most likely exactly why he drinks themselves in to a stupor each evening Tsitos includes a lot of moments of his protag falling a bench in the drunken haze. What's not incorporated is any history to produce auds care much relevant for this sad-eyed, frozen-faced schlemiel unable to simply accept responsibility for shooting someone. Dora is a lot more cynical and for your reason understandable, nevertheless the pic's deadpan style hampers participation in anything beyond an obvious level. The concept here, that existence is certainly unfair when approached in the blinkered perspective, may well be a compelling one, yet there's an opening where the heart needs to be. Part of the fault is dependant on the pic's style, which seems being intentionally tying itself for the absurdism of certain Greek films recently showing well-loved by worldwide crix. Unemotional line delivery together with an over-all inadequate expression aren't enough, however, to talk about the comic part of a seriocomic drama, so audience titters when Dora is hit by her ex-husband means the helmer is unintentionally invoking a questionable reply to an unfunny scene. More interesting will be the hyperrealistic designs, much like an Edward Hopper painting through which plain walls, generally from the dark color, set figures off in space as if they're inhabiting a diorama (the large diorama that Sotiris gives Dora offers interesting paths for development that aren't used). Careful, significantly directed lighting enhances the way a stars stand out, evolving a sense of entrapment in their own personal lives, and Tsitos and lenser Polydefkis Kyrlidis take satisfying advantage of the widescreen, they use by getting a watch for irony. Visual gimmicks with little meaning inside it, however, are overused, for instance Dora's practice of balancing a lit cigarette in unlikely places. Be it made to convey the precarious balance of her unfair world, it doesn't possess the preferred effect.Camera (color, HD, widescreen), Polydefkis Kyrlidis editor, Dimitris Peponis music, Josepha van der Schoot production designer, Spiros Laskaris costume designer, Christina Chantzaridou appear (Dolby SRD), Vaggelis Zelkas connect producers, Marie-Pierre Macia, Juliette Lepoutre.
